Truly deserving of the accolade Modern Classic, Donna Tartt's novel is a remarkable achievement - both compelling and elegant, dramatic and playful.

Under the influence of their charismatic classics professor, a group of clever, eccentric misfits at an elite New England college discover a way of thinking and living that is a world away from the humdrum existence of their contemporaries. But when they go beyond the boundaries of normal morality their lives are changed profoundly for ever.

I was thrilled when I realised that this book, that I read when it was released, had made the BBC Big Read list. I'd been totally blown away by it, but it was a library book and when I returned it I totally forgot what it was called and who it was by, so I couldn't buy my own copy to read. All that has changed now, and I can't wait to get to this in the Top 100 list, as a reread of this fabulous literary thriller is long overdue.
