Callum is a nought - a second class citizen in a world run by the ruling Crosses....

Sephy is a Cross, daughter of one of the most powerful men in the country...

In their world, noughts and Crosses simply don't mix. And as hostility turns to violence, can Callum and Sephy possibly find a way to be together? They are determined to try.

And then the bomb explodes...

A gripping, stimulating and totally absorbing novel set in a world where black and white are right and wrong.

I always feel a little uneasy when I read books tackling the really big subjects; all those 'isms make me nervous. It's so easy to apportion blame, or make one side or the other look bad so it's a real skill to be able to write a story with good messages but also remembering to be entertaining. I really hope this book manages to do all of that, and much more. It's part of the BBC Big Read, so I'll read it eventually.
